Dirty Hits .. love it
A friend of mine said I should check out Primal Scream as an addition to my iPod for work outs. Serendipitous as it was, Fopp had Dirty Hits in sale for £3. That’s how I discovered this musical gem … for the rest periods, clearly.

Thought For Today
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

Rooney Tunes
Wayne Rooney, then.
A birthday present of £250,000 a week in the shape of his new contract helping ease the burden of playing for the Red Devils a day or two before he turns 25.
But amid the acrimony, the protests and yes, death threats, I wonder if we are missing the real sub-text to this story.
Do he think, or more to the point, does he know that Sir Alex Ferguson is about to retire?

The Chair Necessities
Another milestone then. Joshua needed an upgrade in his car seat size to something called a Stage One.
This is what they use for bairn’s 9kg or above - usually around nine months.
It co-incides with his crawling round the house at a rate of knots terrifying the dog, trying to give us heart attacks grabbing anything in sight, and having great fun loudly playing with his favourite toys-...

Happy New Year - Unless TV Gets In the Way
There’s only one thing better than Derby day in Edinburgh. Derby day in Edinburgh that falls on New Year’s Day.
Not since 1998 has this happened, but with the fixtures out for next season, Hearts and Hibs have been paired together for a Jan 1 clash.
It used to be a great tradition. Booze, steak pie, more booze, football, more booze, you get the idea.
So here is a heartfelt plea. No...

Sunshine Corner No More
There used to be a fantastic little restaurant in Edinburgh on Buccleuch Street not far from University of Edinburgh, called Coyaba.
It was Jamaican - laying claim to being the only one in Scotland - and a fabulous find if every there was one.
The beer was imported, the food hot and bursting with flavour, the atmosphere calm and friendly.
In fact, it was probably my favourite ever eating...

Guess who I bump-ed into
There I was standing looking at some potential reading material on a stand at an event in Edinburgh today when I felt someone graze gently past me.
Turning round to offer a polite apology, I was taken aback to find an old friend staring back at me, looking all glowingly lovely with a bump that told me she is just six weeks away from having a baby.
The prospect of a Christmas birth was something...

What? Milne's got another new blog ....
BACK in 2004 when I first started blogging, I set up Milne Media. It was supposed to be a place where I could vent my spleen, talk about stuff that interested me, and generally write for the sake of writing.
Remarkably, it turned into something quite different.
Being a journalist, I wrote about journalism and the media, particularly here in Scotland, and suddenly found people were following it....
