What? Milne’s got another new blog ….
BACK in 2004 when I first started blogging, I set up Milne Media. It was supposed to be a place where I could vent my spleen, talk about stuff that interested me, and generally write for the sake of writing.
Remarkably, it turned into something quite different.
Being a journalist, I wrote about journalism and the media, particularly here in Scotland, and suddenly found people were following it. Not just a few either, hundreds, and on a good day, thousands.
It remains the case today. More than that, what was supposed to be a blog pretty much for my own entertainment, started being taken seriously, at least by some.
Don’t get me wrong, that has had a positive effect in the contacts it has helped build. Regretfully, it’s also cost a few friends along the way who didn’t appreciate my thoughts on a topic, or because I wrote something stupid or that I shouldn’t have.
It also meant I had to be more selective about what I posted.
Those following Milne Media probably don’t want to know about about the amazing things I’ve discovered in baby shops in the run up to becoming a new dad, or the fact we’ve managed to have five tyre punctures in a month, or that I’m going to try my hand at cooking duck for the first time tonight.
But I still want to write about them.
So rather than set up another site on Typepad, I thought I’d have a bash here with tumblr, and set up this micro-blog.
I hope if you choose to read it, you enjoy my world.
If not, you can always try the other one.
