So, just who would be the best to lead us out of a virtual crisis - CI5’s very own George Cowley and his Professionals or Sir Harry Pearce and his band of Spooks at Section D?
Cowley, of course, is old school. No messing with upstart terrorists. He just sends in ex copper Ray Doyle and former Para and SAS sharpshooter William Bodie and bang, job done in time for a pint.
But Cowley drove a Ford Granada and was nicknamed Morris.
Pearce, meantime, has the special issue black leather gloves, seen a bit of action himself - and not just his squeeze Ruth.
But then he’s lost more agents to death, madness and down right treason than anyone else on TV, all with a stiff upper lip.
Pearce, it could be argued, is having a busier time with the new age of terror.
Then again, Cowley was facing the IRA and co.
All I know is I really, really wanted a Ford Capri at the time.
Now I’d settle for the bombproof Jag.
